Florida House Passes Workers’ Compensation Reform Bill

Workers’ compensation payments might be changing soon in Florida. That’s because the Florida House of Representatives just passed a bill that makes significant changes to the system. If you ask a Florida workers’ compensation attorney, the bill is good news for people making workers’ compensation claims, because it expands benefits in many cases.

The bill expands temporary payments

If the bill comes into law, temporary disability benefits are going to increase from 104 weeks to up to 260 weeks. This is the case for both temporary total disability and temporary partial disability payments. The law change is meant to fix a current gap in lost wage payments. This occurs where benefits end prematurely, but the injured person hasn’t yet returned to work or received a declaration of permanent disability.
