Worker Injured In Fall From Scaffold At Coral Springs Construction Site

Coral Springs Workers’ Comp Lawyer

A 45-year-old engineer was taken by Coral Springs Fire Rescue to Broward North Coral Springs Hospital after he fell from a height of about twenty-five feet. The fall happened on the tenth floor of a building under construction. Since it did not yet have elevators, the man’s rescue involved a fire truck ladder with him descending on a platform. The injured employee reportedly suffered serious neck and back injuries.

The O.S.H.A. Six Foot Requirement

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (O.S.H.A.) has identified falls as the most common cause of construction site injuries and deaths. Some of the main causes of the falls involve unprotected edges and openings, poor scaffolding construction and the improper use of ladders. OSHA requires fall protection when working at a height of six feet or more. There is no indication as to whether any fall protections were available at the location.

Workers’ Compensation Benefits Should Be Available

According to Coral Springs Workers’ Compensation lawyer Evan M. Ostfeld, Esq, the employee’s fall occurred in the course and scope of his employment which means he should be able to receive benefits under the Florida’s Workers’ Compensation Act. Some of those benefits include payment of his medical bills, lost wages and or an eventual lump sum settlement.

Accident awareness should be on the minds of management and their employees every moment that they’re working on a construction site. By identifying any hazards and implementing proper safety measures, the number of falls on construction sites can be substantially reduced. The Law Offices of Evan M. Ostfeld P.A. has over 25 years of experience in the representation of workers who have suffered injuries on the job.
