A man who once served as the head of a private preparatory school in Miami, Florida has seen $80,000 of his money go after he filed a discrimination lawsuit. The financial loss came about as a result of his daughter making a post on popular social networking website Facebook.A few years prior, 69 year old Patrick Snay, who was the head of the Gulliver Preparatory School, filed a complaint about age discrimination after his contract for the 2010 to 2011 school season was not renewed. In November of 2011, Snay came to an agreement with the school that would see him paid $10,000 in back pay plus an additional $80,000 settlement. The Gulliver Schools also agreed to pay $60,000 toward Snay’s attorney fees.However, before things were made official, Snay’s daughter went on Facebook and made a boasting post that read, “Mama and Papa Snay won the case against Gulliver. Gulliver is now officially paying for my vacation to Europe this summer. SUCK IT.” Patrick Snay’s daughter posted her message to as many as 1,200 followers on Facebook. Unfortunately, this included many individuals who are current and former students of Gulliver. News of the post spread rapidly, eventually making its way to officials of the school.In mere days, the school sent a letter to Snay’s lawyers that stated that he had broken a confidentiality agreement. Furthermore, the letter said that as a result, he would not be receiving his settlement of $80,000. The agreement specifically stated that Snay and his wife were not permitted to discuss the settlement with anyone other than their attorneys and other advisors. Following the incident, Snay filed a motion to enforce the settlement. He won in a ruling at a Circuit Court and the school appealed afterward. A hearing was also held to determine whether his daughter’s knowledge of the settlement and her post on Facebook had violated the terms of its confidentiality.Patrick Snay explained that he and his wife had discussed what to tell their daughter after the settlement. They ended up deciding to tell her what was going on because she was a big part of what had happened. Snay elaborated that his daughter was retaliated against at the Gulliver School and that she had scars that forced him to seek therapy for her. However, the Third District Court of Appeal for the State of Florida decided that Snay had indeed violated the confidentiality agreement of the settlement and reversed the decision of the Circuit Court. This means that Snay will not receive the $80,000 he was promised. At this time, Snay is the headmaster of the Riviera Preparatory School in Coral Gabes.
