A construction crane collapsed onto a downtown Ft. Lauderdale bridge killing one worker, and seriously injuring several other employees. According to the Ft. Lauderdale Fire Rescue, first responders were called to the SE 3rd Avenue bridge, which spans the New River. Fire Rescue Chief Stephen Gollan said that “During the process of “stepping the crane” a large section in the operation fell from an elevated position. Sadly a Ft. Lauderdale construction worker died while three other co-employees were transported to the Broward Health Medical Center via fire rescue with serious injuries.” The crane was being used for the construction of a new office building. As a result of this Ft. Lauderdale Workers Compensation/Ft Lauderdale Personal Injury accident, the city announced that the bridge would be closed effective immediately. OSHA is conducting a formal investigation to determine the cause of this Ft. Lauderdale Workers Compensation / Ft Lauderdale Personal Injury accident and which parties are at fault.
Fortunately, the family of the deceased worker along with his co-employees should be covered by Florida Workers’ Compensation. Florida Workers’ Compensation Insurance is a benefit that is available to nearly all employees who suffer “an injury or death that arose out of and in the course of their employment” and even if it was their own fault. Moreover there could be a Ft. Lauderdale Personal Injury claim arising out of this horrible Florida workplace accident against such parties as: the crane operator, construction company, crane manufacturer, maintenance company, building owner, inspectors and or other contractors who were also working on this project.
